AN ANGEL DROPPED INTO MY LIFE!

It’s been almost a year since I last wrote in my blog, the reason being that I found I was spending wayyyy too much time on the computer. However, today is a red-letter day, and writing about it on my blog is the only way to do it justice!

A few months ago I came home to find a note taped to my door. A woman with whom I graduated from high school 51 years ago (gasp!) wrote that she was in the area, and asked if I was interested in meeting again after all these years! To make a long story short, we finally managed to meet today, and we had an amazing time reconnecting!

What I found surprising is we both seem fairly flexible, and are open-minded about religion and politics. We laughed a lot, sipped some wine, and shared where our lives have taken us in 51 years. I was surprised to learn she dated for a fair amount of time, a boy I think I went to my junior prom with. (It IS hard to be sure about these details, after 51 years!) I had learned years ago that he died from kidney failure about three years after graduating from high school. My friend, Maureen, went to his wake.

We share some remarkable coincidences: Her daughter has been a pediatrician in the same office building where Tom practices. Maureen, my friend, works in Pediatrics at UCSF where Tom is a clinical professor. Two of her daughters live in Sonoma and work out at Parkpoint, where Tom and I exercise. Maureen has also gone to a Zumba class at Parkpoint, a class that Deborah, my gardener, loves going to. And Maureen has attended one of Deborah’s “Container Gardening” classes at Mission Gardens! One more coincidence: One of Maureen’s daughters found her rental home through Liz and Jeff, my son’s in-laws, and has been living across the street from them. It seems our paths were bound to intersect one day!

One could fit several lifetimes into 51 years, and both Maureen and I have lived full lives, replete with both joys and losses. She is a vibrant, fulfilled, upbeat woman, and so much fun to be with! When next we meet, which we definitely will, Tom and I plan to have Maureen to dinner in our home, or we’ll all meet in San Francisco where Maureen lives, and celebrate our renewed friendship over dinner out!

  1. How fortunate to have reconnected with Maureen! There's a special bond with people from our early years, and to add to that the fact that she is such a kindred spirit and has been connected to you in so many ways all along is so special. Thank you for sharing your wonderful meeting with us!

  2. There is nothing like an "old" friend with whom you have shared so much during such important years of your life's journey. The years just melt away when you are together. It sounds like you are both very young, vibrant women. Enjoy your time together. Tess
